| This Woman Is Suing Vampire Weekend Posted: 16 Jul 2010 10:52 AM PDT The woman that appears on the cover of Vampire Weekend's Contra is suing the band for $2 million. Seriously.
The woman is apparently named Ann Kirsten Kennis and is, according to BrooklynVegan, a resident of Fairfield, CT. Yesterday, TMZ broke the news that Vampire Weekend themselves were being sued, again, for TWO MILLION DOLLARS, because they bear blame for unlawfully using the photo. The suit was filed yesterday in L.A. County Superior Court. But wouldn't the band and their people purchase the photo or secure usage rights ahead of time? Well, they thought they did. In an intriguing twist to this tale, Kennis, who noticed the photo in November when the album's promo cycle began, is claiming that her signature was forged. Additionally, she claiming that the photographer who orchestrated the 'photographic release,' one Tod Brody, did not even take the photo in question. The photo, by the way, was taken in 1983. And so Vampire Weekend, who thought they'd secured the perfect album cover photograph, and all for a relatively measly $5000, is being sued for four hundred times that amount. Two million? How did Kennis arrive at that amount? -- Conrad Doucette Photo possibly by Tod Brody, definitely via Vampire Weekend. |
