Bruce Dickinson Of Iron Maiden Really, REALLY, Hates MP3s

Iron Maiden have released an MP3 for the song "El Dorado" as a teaser for the forthcoming full-length. Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, however, is not a fan.

To be fair to "El Dorado," it's the format, not the song, that so irks Dickinson. The MP3 was posted on June 8 and offered to fans for free.

Dickinson made his feelings (loud and) clear from the stage at the White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, Washington on June 22, decrying the format's limitations and showing remorse for even offering the MP3. Said Dickinson (via Kerrang):

"I [have to] apologise to those of you who've downloaded [the song], ripped it, done whatever because it's a freebie on the web at the moment. I apologise to those of you who have downloaded it, not for any other reason but stuff that is on the Internet sounds like sh*t - it just does. MP3s - how to take all the balls out of the song!

"It's like, MP3s are to music is what zombies are to Shakespeare -- absolute bullsh*t. It's terrible. All these people listening to songs with cotton buds stuffed in their f*cking ears. What is that all about?"

It's unclear what Dickinson means by 'cotton' buds -- is he referring to iPod/iPhone earbuds? Either way, he's right: buy a CD or, better yet, a vinyl record and crank that sh*t (to borrow a Dickensonian turn of phrase) up.

The Final Frontier will be released on August 17.

Rapper Rick Ross Sued By Drug Kingpin Freeway Ricky Ross

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 11:21 AM PDT

Rickross

Convicted drug lord "Freeway" Ricky Ross spent twenty years behind bars, watching rappers like Rick Ross and Freeway become stars while using names inspired by the drug kingpin's name. Now that Ross the dealer is out of jail, he's going after Ross the rapper, as well as a bevy of labels and also JAY-Z.

Ricky Ross is claiming that Rick Ross has made millions using Ricky's name and image. Ricky is seeking $10 million, as well as half of the rapper's royalties. Maybach Music, Universal Music Group, Slip-N-Slide Records, and JAY-Z, who signed Rick to Def Jam in 2006, were also named in the suit.

This could get famous/messy: JAY-Z may be forced to testify in court. Also, Rick is seeking to block Ricky from releasing his forthcoming Teflon Don album, currently slated to drop July 20.

Both Rick and Ricky have spoken publicly on the suit. Rick Ross said the following to AllHipHop.com:

"We just gonna let the people deal with that. It's like owning a restaurant, your gonna have a few slip and falls. You get lawsuits, you deal with them, and get them out your way…sometimes you lose."

While Ricky Ross said the following to Fox 11 News in LA (via AllHipHop):

"I did twenty years in prison and beau coups of money went into making this name and what it is today. I feel it was mine, I own it and I want it back. It's mine. Its like if somebody stole your car, even though they painted it and put wheels on it that they like, it's still your car."

Rick Ross plans to release Teflon Don on schedule. Both men are confident they will be voctorious in the legal battle.
