Drake Cancels European Tour Due To Family Emergency

Posted: 01 Jul 2010 10:21 AM PDT

Drake

Drake has canceled his European tour in order to be with his mother as she recovers from surgery.

The news was released via a statement. Though no information has yet been posted to his MySpace, Drake tweeted the following yesterday:

Draketweet

He later tweeted a quote from 'Mama Graham': 'Be what you are. That's the first step to becoming better than you are.'

Drake is clearly close to his mother, so the announcement regarding the tour cancellation is not surprising. Here is the statement (via the NME):

"Despite my best hopes, it is apparent that my mother will need surgery earlier than anticipated. In light of this news, I have made the difficult decision to cancel my European tour in order to support her during her recovery, just as she supported me through the years. I cannot thank my European fans enough and look forward to performing abroad soon. I ask everyone to please respect my family's privacy during this time."

The London portion of the canceled dates will be rescheduled for November. As we mentioned yesterday, Drake is also dealing with a copyright infringement suit. And earlier this week, it emerged that Drake had been in the studio with Chris Brown.

Have You Seen This Indie Rock Jay-Z Cover Video?

Posted: 01 Jul 2010 05:00 AM PDT

Jackson Harris

Here at Fuse, we watch tons of videos every week, but only the most eye-poppingly, visual-cortex-meltingly, peeper-pleasingly rad clips are good enough for The Worm.

Today we're watching "Empire State of Mind" from Jackson Harris. In his new video cover of Jay-Z's recent hit with Alicia Keys of the same title, Harris brings the footage of NYC down to the streets. Instead of aerial views of skyscrapers, the video focuses on the people and neighborhoods of the world's most famous city. This new version puts a whole new slant on the sentiment of the song/video, especially if you're a New Yorker.

Click through to watch, then get some behind the screens info about the video from the artist.

Now that you've seen the video, treat yourself to a little extra info:

"The idea for the 'Empire State of Mind' video came from my love of New York City and my love of adventure. All of the setups were done in one day and shot guerrilla style. I chose Jay-Z's song because until it was released I always felt that NYC needed a more contemporary anthem. I wanted to make the song my own and create a version of it that fans of hip-hop and indie rock could both enjoy. The idea of 'appropriating' the song is mirrored by the concept of the video - each shot transformed a different NYC location into a room in my apartment. The shot on the rooftop was designed to resemble my music room, for example. Each shooting location has a special significance to me, but the one on the cement island on Allen and Delancey Street was especially significant because it was the site of a near fatal car accident I had last year. In a way, shooting there was my way of reclaiming that spot. We had a lot of fun making this video and it really allowed me to see the city in a whole new light." - Jackson Harris
